For more than a decade, paranormal enthusiasts, brave travelers and those who like otherworldly diversions have been flocking to Atchison, intent on exploring its rich haunted history. It began with the now famous Haunted Atchison Tours, a guide tour aboard the historic Atchison Trolley. Since then, we've added more and more offerings. These tours, programs and events have something for everyone, from the informational History/Mystery Walking Tour and the festive Ghostly Dining Experience to a night of ghost hunting with On-Site Investigations and the thought-provoking Angelic Encounters, Atchison has a little bit of everything.
Unlike many collections of haunted tours and events, Atchison's haunted history didn't just pop up all of a sudden when the trolley started passing by the sites 15 years ago. The stories and locations explored in Atchison have been collected over decades, some stories are even a century old. The stories have been told since Atchison was a bustling transportation hub and launching point for westward migration in the late 1800s, and later a pioneering railroad town. That's when many of our stately homes were built. The bizarre occurences in these majestic dwellings continue to happen today and paranormal investigators still hold Atchison sort of a Holy Grail of ghostly happenings.
This site is your guide to an entire season of eerie excitement and, for some, spiritual awakening. A limited schedule of events is offered each summer, then reaches a climax during September and October, when we offer more than 200 tours and special events. 2012 Summer Tour Schedule Announced!
Tickets for the famous Haunted Atchison Tours are now on sale. We will offer our trolley tour once each month during the summer. As always, our friendly drivers and knowledgeable hosts will guide you through the beautiful and historic neighborhoods. It's not all about the stunning architecture, however. Atchison has more than its share of paranormal history. Listen to the stories and keep your eyes open. You may just glimpse a spirit!
Since 1995, families from across the nation have come visited Atchison for its unique collection of events that explore its lengthy and well documented ghostly history. In 1997, author Lisa Hefner Heitz proclaimed Atchison "the most haunted town in Kansas." Since then, a flurry of books, television specials and documentaries have exposed Atchison one of the most active and interesting sites in the country. It has become a mecca for paranormal investigators, psychics, historians and those just looking for unique entertainment.
The summer schedule is now set! Don't miss your chance to experience Haunted Atchison on a beautiful Kansas summer day. Then you'll have plenty of time to explore on your own!
